Why I Stopped Counting Macros

I tracked every bite for two years. I learned a lot. I also built a relationship with food that became exhausting before it became helpful.

The thing nobody tells you about tracking

Macro counting is presented as neutral, but it is not. It turns meals into math problems. It turns hunger into suspicion. It turns dinner with friends into an arithmetic quiz.

What replaced it

I now eat by rough plate composition. Half vegetables, a quarter protein, a quarter starch or grain, a little fat. I eat until I am satisfied, not until I hit a number. I have kept the same body composition I had when I was tracking, and I no longer think about food between meals.

When tracking is the right tool

If you are brand new to nutritional awareness, two weeks of tracking can be genuinely educational. Just treat it as a class, not a religion. Learn the patterns, then put the app away.

Food should fuel your training. It should not become your training.
